Dragonbone Bay

Fire & Blood

Dragonbone Bay is the water beside Maidenpool that becomes the destination of Nettles’s departure from the castle. The account places Lord Mooton’s castle overlooking the bay, linking the site to the events that lead to her flight and disappearance.

Setting and Association

A raven carrying the queen’s order reaches Manfryd Mooton at his castle overlooking Dragonbone Bay. The command concerns Nettles and Daemon Targaryen, who are staying under Mooton’s protection. The bay is thus the geographic setting for the crisis at Maidenpool, although the surviving account gives no further description of its shores or surrounding waters.

Nettles’s Departure

At dawn, Daemon helps Nettles saddle Sheepstealer in the castle yard. She feeds the dragon a black ram before mounting, then turns toward Dragonbone Bay and vanishes into the morning mists. The narrative says she is never seen again at court or castle. The bay marks the direction of her departure, but the account does not establish where she went afterward.

Narrative Significance

Dragonbone Bay connects the confined episode at Maidenpool with Nettles’s removal from the court’s reach. The account gives the departure a clear point of orientation—the dragon turns toward the bay—while leaving her destination and later fate unrecorded. The place therefore functions as the threshold of a disappearance, not as a fully described or revisited setting.
